Last week we had a CRAZY week to say the least but thankfully God helped us through and things have settled down! Khloe woke up with a fever of 100.5 last Monday morning and wasn't very alert. I knew something was wrong when I tried to feed her and she didn't nurse very well. By the time we headed to the Dr. her fever had gone down to 99.2 and she was acting much better so I was certain that the Dr. would just say she had a virus and send us on our way. Boy was I wrong! We were at the Dr.'s office for 3 hours and poor Khloe got poked and prodded on. First they pricked her heel to get a blood sample and when they ran the test it showed her white cell count was too high for her to have a virus...it was bacterial and her only symptoms were the fever and her not eating well so her pediatrician (who we love) was determined to find out what was going on. That's when the poking and prodding began : ( He ordered a chest xray first to rule out pneumonia. I had to help hold her down and still while they took the xrays and let me just say it's horrible listening to your baby scream when there's nothing you can do. The xrays showed her lungs were clear so the Dr. informed me he needed to draw blood to send off to the lab for testing and then they would need to catheterize her for a urine sample to check for a urinary tract infection. The Dr. asked for my permission to draw the blood and I really didn't think twice about it but after he got started I understood why....little did I realize that 2 month old's don't have veins good for drawing blood! He dug around in both of her little arms while she screamed bloody murder for what seemed like an eternity before deciding to take a break! By that time, I was getting a little mad and asked if it was absolutely necessary for him to draw blood and he said it was so I nursed poor Khloe to calm her down and comfort her a little. After about 15 minutes the Dr. came back and said we might have more luck finding a vein in her head. I knew I wouldn't be able to watch that and didn't want Kinsey in the room to see it either so we made a much needed trip to the bathroom! (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Kinsey was with us! She was the perfect little angel and it was probably good that she was there to help keep my mind off of what they were doing to Khloe! ) When we returned, they had been successful in drawing blood finally but still had to cath her. I decided to leave the room for that too...call me a bad mama but by that point I was mentally and emotionally drained! After they got the urine sample the Dr. told me her urine was cloudy so he was suspecting a UTI. Before we left, they gave her an antibiotic shot in the thigh and gave us a prescription for an oral antibiotic too! I don't think I've ever been so glad to leave that place!!! I did really well in the office and only got teary eyed a few times but as soon as we hit the doors I broke down. To say I was completely exhausted would be an understatement!
The Dr. wanted to see us again Tuesday so Ryan went with me and Gram and Pop watched Kinsey for us. The urine sample came back and Khloe did have a UTI. She was already acting tons better but the Dr. wanted to give her another antibiotic shot so she got poked again! Poor baby : ( After he explained that she had a UTI, he said that babies this little normally don't get UTI's unless there is something structurally wrong and that once she got over the infection they would need to do further testing. So, we go on Thursday for an ultrasound and VCUG test, which will see if Khloe has reflux. They have to cath her, fill her bladder with dye, and take some xrays to see if her urine is going back up in the ureters. We are not looking forward to this but know it's for the best and praying that whatever is going on can be treated easily. We would really appreciate your prayers on behalf of our sweet Khloe!
After our 3 hour Dr. visit on Monday I told Ryan that I didn't know how parents with really sick babies deal with it day in and day out! I know they don't have a choice but it just made me that much more thankful for my healthy girls! No matter what the outcome of Khloe's tests on Thursday I know that God will be with us and get us through.
I already had Khloe's 2 month well check scheduled for last Thursday so we went back to the pediatrician for the 3rd time in 1 week (too many times if you ask me!) She weighed 11 lbs. 14 oz. (64%) and was 24 in. (90%). I don't remember her head circumference measurement but she fell in the 70% for it. The Dr. thought she was well enough to get her immunizations so her little legs got poked 3 more times but thankfully it's behind us!
Recently my mom found out that she has a mass on one of her ovaries and she got to meet with her gynecologist last week to discuss what was going on. Thankfully he doesn't think that it's anything cancerous but she will be having surgery to remove it on the 24th of this month so please keep her in your prayers too. We are praying that surgery will be all that is needed to take care of the problem and hopeful that after surgery she feel better than ever!
Despite our crazy week last week, we made it through and thankfully this week has been much quieter! I know compared to what some of our friends are going through right now, our worries seem minimal but I'm thankful that we serve a God who hears our prayers and wants us to cast all of our burdens, both big and small, on Him.
On a bright note we got some pictures back of Khloe that we had taken a few weeks ago. I'm way too tired to post them tonight but hopefully I'll get them up tomorrow so be on the look out...and thanks again for your prayers. They mean so much!
